Job Description

The MS STEAM and Technology Teacher designs and implements engaging, hands-on lessons to foster critical thinking, creativity and problem-solving skills while integrating interdisciplinary connections for students in grades 5-8.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver interactive STEAM and technology-based lessons aligned with ISTE and other STEAM-related curriculum standards.
  • Assists students with basic technology skills, troubleshooting and using digital tools.
  • Integrate project-based learning, coding, robotics, engineering design and digital literacy into instruction.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies and emerging technologies to engage diverse learners.
  • Fosters a positive and inclusive learning atmosphere that encourages curiosity, exploration and teamwork.
  • Foster a collaborative and inquiry-driven classroom environment.
  • Assess and evaluate student progress through various formative and summative evaluations.
  • Maintain and manage classroom technology, including software, hardware and robotics equipment.
  • Collaborate with grade-level teams to integrate STEAM concepts across disciplines and support interdisciplinary learning.
  • Stay current with educational technology trends and best practices.
  • Offer engaging STEAM-related elective courses, such as coding, robotics, game design or digital media.
  • Guide students in STEAM competitions, coding clubs or technology-based extracurricular activities.
  • Serve as an advisor to a group of Middle School students and supervise daily Study Hall.
  • Assist with opening-of-school functions, pre-planning week,  Back to School nights, and complete all assigned tasks from Head of Middle School.
  • Actively support school functions, such as athletic events, co-curricular events, and field experiences
  • Attend weekly faculty meetings, grade-level meetings and serve on faculty committees as needed.
  • Meet responsibilities and deadlines in the classroom and of the school (e.g., fall and spring parent conferences, accurate and timely report writing, weekly grade level team meetings)
  • Communicate with parents: return phone calls, emails, and notes in a timely manner.
  • Provide extra help to students before or after school and/or study halls when necessary.
  • Prepare course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments and handouts.
  • Maintain student attendance records, grades, and other required records.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEAM education, Computer Science, Engineering or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Deep knowledge of content standards, effective instructional strategies and assessment-driven instruction.
  • Strong Google Apps for Education skills (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Sites, etc.)
  • Experience (or familiarity with) tools such as, but not limited to: 3D printing, TinkerCAD, laser cutting, vinyl cutting, Arduino, Makey-Makey, Sphero, etc.
  • Familiarity with Python preferred
  • Strong communication and classroom management skills.
  • Passion for fostering innovation and curiosity in young learners.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Works in a highly involved and busy environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts.
  • May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time.
  • Be able to occasionally lift up to 20 lbs.
  • Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled classroom environment.
  • Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
