Our Wayfinder team is building scalable, certifiable autonomy systems to power the next generation of commercial aircraft. Our team of experts is driving the maturation of machine learning and other core technologies for autonomous flight; we are creating a reference architecture that includes hardware, software, and a data-driven development process to allow aircraft to perceive and react to their environment. The Opportunity/Role Description

As an AI Engineer on the Wayfinder team, you will be a key contributor to building and enhancing our AI systems. Reporting to the Manager of AI Algorithms, you will help develop and advance our critical AI agent applications. Your work will focus on the full lifecycle of AI applications, from implementing, optimizing and rigorously evaluating systems to meet performance benchmarks. This is a unique opportunity to prototype innovative solutions, bring them to production, and directly impact the future of aviation.

Role Responsibilities

• Design, implement, test, and continuously optimize end-to-end RAG pipelines, including data parsing, ingestion, prompt engineering, and chunking strategies.
• Curate and develop high-quality datasets, using synthetic data generation for robust training and evaluation.
• Rigorously evaluate LLM applications on metrics including correctness, latency, and hallucination.
• Assist in the deployment of LLM-based applications, analyze user feedback, and contribute to iterative improvements.
• Write clean, maintainable, and testable code following best practices.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Data/Labeling, Validation).

Qualifications

• Master’s or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field; or a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 2 years of hands-on industry experience in software engineering.
• Demonstrable experience or strong projects in LLM/RAG development.
• Strong skills in Python and data analysis libraries (Pandas, NumPy, SQL).
• Hands-on experience with vector databases (e.g. Milvus, Chroma) and RAG evaluation frameworks (e.g., Ragas, DeepEval).
• Clear communication and presentation skills.

Good To Have

• Full-stack development experience, particularly integrating AI models into applications using frameworks like React and Python (e.g., FastAPI, Flask).
• Familiarity with RL, techniques for fine-tuning LLMs (e.g., LoRA), and other emerging ML methodologies.
• Hands-on experience with open-source LLMs (e.g., Mistral, Llama series) and inference tools like Ollama or vLLM.
• A passion for aviation and autonomous systems.

Compensation:
