Position Summary & Responsibilities

Position Summary: The Kansas State Capitol is seeking enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and outgoing individuals to join our Visitor Services team as Part-Time Tour Guide . This role offers a unique opportunity to share the rich history, architecture, and legislative importance of the Kansas State Capitol with visitors from across the state, the nation, and the world. As a Tour Guide, you will lead both historic building tours and dome tours, providing engaging, accurate, and accessible information to diverse audiences. This is a rewarding position for anyone interested in Kansas history, architecture, government, or education.


Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

Conduct scheduled tours of the historic Kansas State Capitol building, including the House and Senate chambers, murals, and historic exhibits.

Lead guided dome tours, which include climbing 296 steps to the top of the Capitol dome and sharing insights into its unique architecture and panoramic views.

Tailor presentations to a wide variety of audiences, including school groups, tourists, and dignitaries.

Provide general visitor information and ensure a welcoming, safe, and informative experience for all guests.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Kansas history, state government operations, and Capitol building details.

Assist with special events and educational programs as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

Strong public speaking and interpersonal communication skills.

A friendly, professional demeanor and a passion for history and public service.

Comfortable with physical activity, including climbing multiple flights of stairs for dome tours.

Prior experience in education, customer service, theater, museums, or tour guiding is preferred but not required.

Must be available to work weekdays, with occasional Saturdays as scheduled.
